Gwegilhaul

Gwegil Haul   This house no longer exists. It was situated at the top of the driveway to Nantmel, opposite Nyfthra and The Hollies. The Landowner was Mary Price (1840’s) and the occupier of the land was John Davies of CwmDylan,it was classed as a Cottage and garden. When it was originally built I have no idea. It seems to have been demolished between 1871 and 1881. I believe another cottage existed opposite it at an earlier time (pre1841) which is now the site of The Hollies and Nyfthra.   Known occupants of the Cottage;   1841 Thomas Morgans and wife Esther, children David,Gwen and a David Davies. 1851 Charles Charles and wife Mary, son William and grandson David Jones. 1861 John Morgan and wife Esther   1871 Naomi Cunningham (Kenington) and children Thomas,Rees,Margaret,William and Rees Powell and Jane Herdsman. Her Husband was John from Ireland. The family moved to South Wales to the mines.  No information after 1871.
