Gary Smith - Anecdotes

In 1975 a few of us boys were playing football at Gorse Bank, we moved a post to make a goal and a piece of metal came out that looked like a sword. we took it to school to show the history teacher ( Mr Hughes) and he took it to Cardiff museum and it was confirmed as Roman. Last I heard Andrew Price (Gorse) still had it.

In the mid 1980's the road from the village up past the Lake to the crossroads was resurfaced including the lane to the Bariums, in some parts this left a step this was back filled with the waste from the widening of the road at Brecon ( the Upper Chapel road going down to the Cathedral). one night while admiring the view we tripped over some rubbish in the new soil, this was cleaned and identified as a 1930's German Mauser, I still have this.
