Leicester House

It is said that Thomas Bowen, great grandfather to Evelyn Griffiths (nee Bowen) built Leicester House and the rest of the row as far as Dole House using slate from Llangammarch quarry. When he died he left each of his children (4 daughters and 1 son) a house. Over time the shop was a doctors surgery, a butchers shop and a library

    William Stephens,age 47,  postmaster his wife Elizabeth,age 43,  his son William Bowen Stephens  age 20, who was a telegraph clerk, his daughter Hilda Louise age 17, who was a housemaid


  • 1901
     
    William Stephens, age 39, boot maker, wife, Elizabeth age 32, and children William age 10, Thomas age 9, Hilda age 8 and Percy age 6 
  • 1891
     
    William Stephens, age 31, shoemaker, wife, Elizabeth age 23 and baby son, William age 11 months
